Saving Water and Reducing Water Infrastructure Investments through Remote Acoustic Leak Monitoring System and Pipe Condition Assessment

Water leaks and water scarcity are major challenges faced by water utilities around the world. The cost of maintaining pipes that are worn out is high and sometimes require emergency work with higher costs. The ability to identify defective parts in the pipeline in order to replace them and prevent costly maintenance (bursts repairs), water loss and disturbances in the water supply is of great value both to the water corporation and to its customers – the water consumers.

One of the most successful methods for detecting and locating water leaks that frequently develop in the depths of “buried” piping is acoustics.

Aquarius Spectrum developed acoustic solutions that enable water utilities to perform proactive monitoring of their underground assets and hence detect background leaks in their initial stages of development and fix them before they surface and cause serious damage.

These solutions, based on sensitive correlating fixed and mobile sensors, can be applied in all types of pipes.

Aquarius offers advanced leak detection and pipe condition assessment solutions that help the largest water utilities around the world reduce their Water Loss, prevent water pipe bursts and provide guidance on which pipes should be replaced and renewed.

Aquarius technology is based on sensitive Acoustic Sensors and big data analytics. Aquarius supports all pipe material and all diameters including large and PE pipes. Aquarius solutions enable Water Utilities to proactively monitor their network, trace leaks and pinpoint their exact locations automatically on a daily basis.

About Aquarius Spectrum

Aquarius-Spectrum is a subsidiary of Hutchison Water, part of the CK Hutchison Holdings Limited group, focusing on projects and technologies in the fields of water, cleantech and digital health.

Aquarius Spectrum developed acoustic solutions that enable water utilities to perform proactive monitoring of their underground assets and detect background leaks in their initial stages of development and fix them before they surface and cause serious damage. Aquarius also assess the real condition of the pipes. These solutions, which are based on sensitive fixed and mobile sensors with advanced correlating algorithms, can be applied in all types of pipes.

To date, the company has deployed thousands of sensors which are installed on municipal water networks in major cities in Israel, UK, Italy and the U.S., covering thousands of kilometers of drinking water pipelines. This technology helps Water Utilities reduce their Non-Revenue-Water (NRW) and their Maintenance & Operational costs by using highly sensitive sensors, management software and a mobile application. SUEZ, American Water, Thames Water, Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv are among our customers.

Using our patented technology, water utilities significantly reduced their Non-Revenue Water as well as Maintenance & Operational costs. Our solutions include a fixed all-time remote monitoring system and a smartphone-based leak detection system.

Unique Advantages

Aquarius solutions differ from conventional leak detection by noise systems in both design and methodology. Our competitive advantages are:

  • Accurate Leak Location (Pinpoint)
  • Large distance between sensors (Significant saving(
  • Supports all pipe material and all diameters
  • Powerful & User-friendly interface
  • Superb service and support
  • Seamless integration between sensors and mobile app
  • Integrated pressure monitoring
  • Pipe Condition Assessment module
